Scaling Up: Growing Personio in the Nordics and Beyond
We're experiencing rapid growth as we expand our product offerings and move into new markets – which creates an exciting, fast-paced environment for our International Sales teams! Maria Duni, Nordics Country Manager, gives us insight into working in this rapid development period, the unique challenges she faces in her role, and who she’s looking for to join her team. What does it mean to be the Nordics Country Manager?
In a nutshell, I’m responsible for the expansion of Personio in the Nordics – not just from a sales perspective, but all the way through to marketing and developing the nature of the product itself.
My days are typically varied, and always busy! But the fast nature of my job is what I love. It’s very interesting day-to-day because the Nordics is a growing region with lots of potential when it comes to the Personio product. I spend a lot of time talking to stakeholders, speaking to my team to understand where we are, and talking to potential customers so that they are aware of Personio.
It’s certainly a high-speed role, but it’s so exciting to be managing a region that has so much potential, and where the market is hungry for HR products.
How did you get to where you are now?
I’ve always been in sales, working across different industries and different countries, like Sweden and Ireland. More specifically, I’ve been in tech sales for the last six years, coming to Personio from Dropbox. So I’d say my career has been pretty linear, starting from scratch as a Sales Development Representative to now being a Country Manager!
What’s your favorite thing about your job?
I know it sounds cliché, but I just love the people I work with every day! The people we hire at Personio are amazing, and we all get on so well and fit nicely as a team. I spend a lot of time with them and it’s great that we can work together to develop Personio’s path in the Nordics as a collective force.
But it’s not just my fellow Personios I enjoy interacting with each day. The people and companies that we can help through offering the Personio product add a lot of depth and impact to my role.
What excites you about working at Personio?
The most exciting aspect about working at Personio has got to be the company’s growth potential. It’s the first time in my career that I have had the opportunity to work at a company that is growing at such a fast pace. At the beginning of last year, we had just over 600 employees, and now we’ve doubled to more than 1,200! Being part of Personio’s journey from start-up to scale-up, taking the next steps with the company, and contributing to building something with so much potential – it’s a pretty amazing opportunity.
What is the biggest challenge you have faced since your time at Personio?
It’s funny because my answer to this question is the same as the above – my biggest challenge is also what I find most exciting! The speed at which Personio is growing is a thrilling journey, but there are a lot of challenges that come with it. We have to be versatile and flexible, pivot frequently, and adapt our strategies at pace – all while learning more and more about the Nordics market every day.
Your team is growing. What type of person are you looking to hire?
When it comes to finding the right person, we look for passion, drive, and resilience. Our team has a great habit of showing up every day with 100% effort, so anyone that we hire needs to do the same. We’re on a journey together, so someone who can come to work and be excited about what they do on a day-to-day basis is so valuable! I do believe that Personio has been able to reach such high growth in such a short amount of time because we hire these types of people – people who care about Personio and care about the product. Which is why it’s such an exciting place to work!
