People @ Personio – Let’s #TECH A BREAK with Oleg Shuliak

This week we joined Oleg Shuliak, one of our QA Automation Engineers, for a short coffee break on the terrace of our Munich office, and this is what he shared with us about his tech role at Personio.

What is your position about?

I'm a QA Automation Engineer, which means that I’m responsible for ensuring that the product works perfectly. Currently, I am in the transition to switch to a technical position in Backend, which means that I’m also one of the Software Engineers. We are responsible for providing new functionalities and features for the product. That’s why I would say I’m in between two worlds.

How many languages do you speak?

Three and a half 😉 I speak English, Russian, Ukrainian, and I’m currently in the process of learning German.

Which qualities should your ideal teammate have?

Our daily work happens in a very modern environment with access to the top technologies; therefore, this teammate should be a very high technically-skilled person, who should be ready to embrace challenging tasks and be willing to learn something new every day.

What’s your favorite thing about working at Personio?

Easy one: The people around me. The fact that they show a lot of professionalism and the fact that everyone is willing to help, always willing to implement something new, and really cares about the product is something that I really enjoy. Plus, I can pretty much always have fun with them, and I’m not only talking about the Engineering department, but also for any other departments at Personio. Here we feel the culture of the company regardless of the area you are working in. All of us understand what the purpose of our company is and why we’re moving in the direction that we are moving to. We are on the same page and we know what impact we have on the market, as well as how we wanna impact the market. What goals do we want to achieve? … and so on. This is amazing! Yeah, so basically my favorite part of Personio is the people.

What’s the latest project that you have been working on?

Right now I’m focused on implementing the E-signature. This new feature for our Personio product will give our customers the ability to sign all the documents (e.g., the working contracts) with the help of an electronic signature instead of sending the contract to the employee via post.

And finally, what is your favorite thing at the office?

There are a lot of things:

☕️ The coffee machine obviously, because it has excellent coffee.

📚 Our library with all the books that we have for engineers.

🏓 The playroom with the ping-pong table and the FIFA games.
