Tax Manager (d/f/m)
Location: Munich or Berlin (3 days per week in office)
Department: Finance, Legal & Strategy
The Role
We are more than a support team. We enable Personio’s fast and sustainable growth and ensure the financial health and legal stability of the organization. If you want to work and learn in an interdisciplinary environment across Finance, Legal, and Strategy — and make a real impact from day one — then you’ve come to the right place.
As a Tax Manager, you will take ownership of tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions, strengthen our tax governance, and support strategic initiatives as we continue to scale across Europe.
At Personio, you don’t just shape the future of work — you shape your own future too.
We are looking for a motivated and passionate Tax Manager (d/f/m) who thrives in a fast-paced international environment. We seek problem-solvers who recognize opportunities for improvement and drive them forward. You will play a key role in building our in-house tax function, elevating Personio to the next level, and actively contributing to our continued growth journey.
Are you ready to take on this challenge? In this role, you will be responsible for:
What You’ll Do
Lead core tax compliance for German corporate income tax, trade tax, and VAT, and support compliance for Personio’s foreign permanent establishments (e.g. UK, IE, NL) and subsidiaries
Drive tax reporting and closing processes under IFRS and HGB, ensuring accurate and timely tax figures for group reporting.
Manage tax audits from end to end and act as the primary point of contact for external advisors, auditors, and tax authorities.
Streamline and professionalize tax processes by partnering with Accounting, Payroll, FP&A, and Legal to build scalable workflows and internal controls (Tax CMS).
Contribute to strategic projects such as cross‑border mobility, transfer pricing, new market entries, restructurings, and Personio’s evolving international tax footprint.
Provide practical, business‑focused tax advice on new business models, product developments, and transactions.
Collaborate cross‑functionally to make complex tax topics clear, actionable, and easy to implement.
What You Need to Succeed
Degree in Tax, Accounting, Finance, or a related field, complemented by qualification as a German Tax Advisor (Steuerberater).
3–5 years of experience in corporate tax, ideally in a Big4 firm and/or an international in‑house tax function.
Strong technical expertise in German corporate tax and VAT, and solid understanding of IFRS and HGB tax reporting.
Experienced in preparing or reviewing current and deferred tax calculations under IFRS or HGB.
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex topics for non‑tax audiences.
Hands‑on mindset, proactive, and eager to shape scalable tax processes and strengthen Personio’s internal capabilities.
AI affinity and willingness to work with modern tools, seeing AI as an opportunity to enhance efficiency, automate workflows, and improve documentation quality.
Fluency in German and English.
