Personio achieves profitability and accelerates AI strategy with acquisition of aurio

Munich – April 22, 2026 – Personio announced today it has achieved profitability as a company and has acquired aurio, a Munich-based recruiting AI startup, to accelerate Personio’s existing AI strategy and roadmap.
Profitability as the foundation for the next phase of growth
This milestone comes at a time when requirements for software companies are fundamentally changing. Over the past two years, Personio has made deliberate decisions to focus, move faster, and stay closer to customers. This efficiency, combined with continued innovation has driven both the company’s first profitable quarter and its growth to 16,000 customers covering over 1.5M employees across Europe.
“Reaching our first profitable quarter is a major milestone for Personio,” said Hanno Renner, CEO and co-founder of Personio. “It means we can fund our innovation agenda from the strength of our business – independent of external capital cycles. It’s an important step in building a resilient company and giving customers confidence that we’re here for the long term.”
Accelerating AI: Personio acquires aurio
As part of its continued AI agenda, Personio has acquired aurio. The aurio team has joined Personio’s Product, Engineering and Design teams. Aurio brings agentic experience across core recruiting workflows: candidate sourcing and screening. Their AI-powered candidate search automatically surfaces relevant profiles for recruiters, while incoming applications are automatically evaluated and prioritised before the recruiter reviews them.
“Recruitment needs are rising, and teams are under more pressure than ever to move faster without compromising quality,” added Renner. “With the aurio team joining Personio, we can accelerate AI that supports sourcing and screening. Longer term, we envisage many more agentic experiences that support HR teams by reducing busywork while keeping decisions firmly human-led.”
A mis-hire can cost European companies an average of €44,339. Companies will soon be able to mitigate this risk with aurio’s AI capabilities integrated into Personio Recruiting. Personio’s app for recruitment is now used by 9,000 customers, making it a highly scaled entry point. Many of these customers are also aurio customers already, signalling strong product fit and customer demand.
“We built aurio knowing that recruiting is one of the most human processes in any organisation and that AI should improve it without taking over,” said Aliosha Milsztein, co‑founder of aurio. “From our first conversations with Personio, it was clear we shared the same vision for human‑led, AI‑supported recruiting. The strength of their platform, customer base, and AI foundation made the acquisition feel like the perfect next step. Joining Personio lets us bring our agentic experience to thousands of customers directly in the workflows they use every day.”
Personio expects initial customer launches related to the aurio integration later this year.
Fueling payroll growth and customer success
Personio's profitability enables continued investment in the areas that matter most to customers. Payroll is a central part of that story: Personio's Payroll business is growing at 80% year-over-year and now serves more than 1,500 customers. This represents a significant runway for growth within the existing customer base and the wider European market, projected to reach $27 billion by 2035. At the same time, Personio is focusing on enabling further customer success: the company has doubled its dedicated support capacity to improve customer response times, while continuing to ship product improvements. The company shipped over 300 features last year, including AI-powered enhancements, that reduce the manual work HR teams deal with every day.
"The goal is straightforward: to be the partner European businesses can rely on for the long term, not just a platform they use," said Renner.
