Performance ratings only hold up when they're applied the same way across a team. Calibrations gives HR one place to run that conversation, keep every decision documented, and see how the final spread compares to what the organisation expects.

Prepare before the meeting Ahead of the calibration meeting, HR can check that every rating is submitted, review the distribution, and note the cases flagged for discussion, so the conversation starts from a clear picture rather than catching up in the room.

Update live, with the reasoning attached During the meeting, ratings can be confirmed or changed as they're discussed, with notes kept alongside each one. If a rating is ever questioned later, the reasoning behind it is already on record, and another HR colleague can pick up exactly where the last left off.
