+++ Europe’s most valuable HR tech company is on track to grow its Dublin headcount almost fivefold in 2021, creating around 140 additional jobs
+++ Dublin set to become Personio’s new international business and software engineering hub
+++ Personio is accelerating expansion across Europe in 2021, following $125M Series D funding round and $1.7B valuation
26 January 2021: Personio, the all-in-one HR software for SMEs, is doubling down on its efforts to expand its new international business and software engineering hub in Dublin. The HR tech company, which digitises people processes to unlock the productive potential of European SMEs, has grown its Dublin presence from the ground up, building a team of 40 people – since opening its office in the city in April 2020. And Personio is executing on a fast-paced upward growth trajectory, with plans to grow the size of its Irish presence almost fivefold, to 180 by the end of 2021.
The company is supported by the Irish Government through IDA Ireland.
Offering SMEs recruiting, HR management and payroll support through its all-in-one HR software, Personio operates from three other European offices – in Munich, London, and Madrid. The Dublin office – which is headed up by Geraldine MacCarthy, Personio’s Chief Revenue Officer – opened its doors in April 2020.
Hanno Renner, co-founder and CEO of Personio: “As a European company, we are passionate about serving the needs of European SMEs, and Dublin’s an ideal place to do that. The city’s business-friendly environment and status, as a well-established international talent hub – one that’s already helped many successful tech companies better serve the European market – made the decision to set up our fourth office here an easy one. With Dublin as the base for our international business and software engineering hub, we’re well-positioned to become Europe’s leading HR platform for SMEs.”
Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Leo Varadkar TD: “It is great to see that Dublin will become Personio’s new international business and software engineering hub. The company has gone from strength to strength since it set up in Dublin only a few short months ago and it’s really encouraging to see the addition of 120 new roles. This announcement once again demonstrates the attractiveness of Ireland for FDI. We offer the right conditions – particularly our skilled and talented workforce – to enable companies like Personio to grow and further embed its operations here. I wish the company every success with this new chapter.”
Personio has seen huge success over the past year, doubling its business in terms of customers, revenue and employees and continuing to expand internationally, despite the Covid-19 pandemic. It has also experienced strong demand in its new markets, including the UK and Ireland.
Earlier this month, Personio announced $125 million of new and preemptive Series D funding in an investment round that values the business at $1.7 billion, placing Personio among the most valuable private software companies in Europe. This latest funding came only 12 months after the company received $75 million of Series C funding in 2020, bringing its total funding to $250 million since launching in 2015.
As the company continues to grow over the coming year, Personio is planning to nearly double the size of its team, from 550 to 1,000 employees. To make this happen, the company is hiring talent in all areas of the business with a particular focus on sales & marketing, customer operations and software engineering.
Geraldine MacCarthy, Chief Revenue Officer at Personio: “So far, the European market is highly underserved in terms of HR software for SMEs, which creates huge potential for us to continue our growth trajectory here in Ireland, as well as internationally. And this year, with businesses needing new ways to effectively manage remote and hybrid workforces, the appetite for HR technology has only increased. After a tumultuous 2020, the importance of effective people management and strategy in overall business success has never been clearer, and it’s by digitising people processes that employers can free up HR’s time to focus on their greatest asset: their people.”
Martin Shanahan, CEO IDA Ireland: “The choice of Dublin for Personio’s new international business and software engineering hub, from which the company will serve its growing customer base, points to Ireland’s track record and attractiveness as an established tech hub in Europe. Personio’s success to date, in spite of a challenging business environment, and their ambitious growth plans bode well for the Irish operation. This is a welcome investment from a European company and on behalf of IDA Ireland, I would like to offer our continued partnership and support.”
Last year, Personio also completed the expansion of its executive team after hiring three high-profile leaders: Geraldine MacCarthy as Chief Revenue Officer (ex Dropbox), Ross Seychell as Chief People Officer (ex Transferwise) and Birgit Haderer as Chief Finance Officer (ex Zalando).
