Senior Platform Engineer - DevTools (d/f/m)

Product, Technology & Design
Full Time
Munich, Dublin

Personio's intelligent HR platform helps small and medium-sized organizations unlock the power of people by making complicated, time-consuming tasks simple and efficient. Our team of 1,500 Personios is building user-friendly products that delight our 15,000+ customers and their 1.5 million employees. Ready to make an impact from day one?

The Role

This role requires 2 days per week in the office and is based in Munich or Dublin.

Join us to shape the future of software in the underserved and high-impact HR technology industry. Your work will have a direct and tangible impact on customers, offering ownership and the chance to make a meaningful difference. As we prepare for significant growth, you'll face exciting challenges and have the opportunity to influence our path toward becoming one of the world's leading tech companies.

Personio is going all-in on AI, and Developer Experience is where that bet gets cashed in: we run the internal platform hundreds of engineers use every day, from the Claude Code plugin and skill marketplace to the automations that strip real toil out of how code gets written, reviewed, tested, and shipped. We've already seen a step-change in engineering throughput, and we're just getting started. For example, how far we can push agentic automation, and what the SDLC looks like when a model writes much of the code, is still ours to define. AI is the sharpest tool in the box, but it is not the whole job. Builds still need to be fast. CI still needs to be green and trustworthy. This is a role for someone who wants to push the frontier on AI tooling and also cares about the platform work that hundreds of people quietly rely on every day.

What You'll Do

  • Build and maintain the core developer platform: CI/CD, everyday developer workflows and tooling, our Backstage developer portal and service catalog, and the build, test, and release infrastructure the whole organisation runs on.

  • Design and ship AI-assisted developer tooling: plugins, skills, agents, and automations that remove real toil from how engineers write, review, test, and ship code.

  • Help take our AI ambitions further, from the internal Claude Code platform to cloud-hosted agents running inside Personio's own infrastructure and automated code review.

  • Treat developer experience like a product: talk to your users (other engineers), find the friction, measure it with real telemetry, and ship improvements that move the numbers.

  • Own work end to end, from a rough problem statement through design, build, rollout, and the adoption work that makes sure people actually use what you built.

  • Run platform-wide migrations and upgrades that span many services, keeping things moving without breaking the teams who depend on you.

  • Keep the platform reliable and fast, reason about failure modes, performance, and cost, and take your turn on call for the systems we own.

  • Raise the bar across engineering: make it hard to do the wrong thing, evangelise the tools that work, and remove the organisational friction that slows adoption.

What You Need to Succeed

  • 6+ years of experience shipping web-based software, with a strong preference for TypeScript or Kotlin stacks.

  • AI-first mindset: you are actively exploring where AI helps, you champion responsible adoption, and you run quick experiments measured against real impact rather than hype.

  • You are comfortable owning work end to end: understanding an ambiguous problem, shipping it, and seeing it through to real adoption rather than handing off a prototype.

  • You have a genuine product sense for your users. You would rather watch an engineer hit friction than guess at it, and you use data and telemetry to decide what to fix.

  • You learn fast, unblock yourself and your team, and stay on a problem until the right version of it is solved.

Nice to Have

  • Experience building developer tooling / Developer Experience initiatives (e.g., internal platforms, CLI tools, SDKs, templates, golden paths, CI/CD improvements)

  • Experience with GraphQL, particularly in building middleware or gateway layers

  • Strong Gradle experience

Note: We welcome Senior Backend Engineers who are excited to move closer to Developer Experience and platform enablement. Direct DevEx/platform-tooling experience is great, but not required.
