Associate Payroll Services Specialist (d/f/m)

Payroll Sales & Operations
Full Time
Remote Germany, Berlin, Munich

Personio's intelligent HR platform helps small and medium-sized organizations unlock the power of people by making complicated, time-consuming tasks simple and efficient. Our team of 1,500 Personios is building user-friendly products that delight our 15,000+ customers and their 1.5 million employees. Ready to make an impact from day one?

This role requires you to be in the office three days per week, with the option to be based in either Munich or Berlin. If you are located elsewhere in Germany, remote work is also possible.

1. The Role

As a Payroll Specialist (Associate) in Payroll Services at Personio, you support the processing of payroll for customers who cannot process on their own, by handling the preliminary payroll preparation for the Snr Payroll Specialist. You process defined case types each cycle, support onboarding tasks as part of a broader implementation led by a more senior specialist, and escalate anything outside your scope rather than resolving it independently. You report to the Lead, Payroll Services.

2. Role Responsibilities: "What You'll Do"

  • Case Processing: You process payroll cases for existing customers each cycle, following documented procedures and escalating exceptions for review.

  • Implementation Support: You support customer onboarding onto our alternate processing system by completing defined tasks within an implementation led by a more experienced colleague, building toward independent ownership over time.

  • Issue Escalation: You identify potential blockers or unusual customer situations and escalate them to your more experienced colleagues rather than qualifying or routing them yourself.

  • Documentation Use & Upkeep: You follow existing best-practice documentation closely and help keep it current by flagging gaps or outdated steps to the team.

  • Cross-Team Communication: You handle routine day-to-day communication with Support and Implementation on case status, escalating more complex coordination needs to senior colleagues.

3. Role Requirements: "What You Need to Succeed"

  • Foundational Payroll Knowledge: You have working knowledge of core payroll processes and compliance requirements, and are building familiarity with edge cases.

  • Reliable Process Execution: You can follow documented processes accurately and consistently, with strong attention to detail.

  • Communication Skills: You communicate clearly and professionally with internal teams on routine, day-to-day matters. Fluently in German and English.

  • Growth Mindset: You're motivated to develop toward independent case ownership and welcome coaching from senior team members.
