The Role
This role requires 2 days per week in the office and is based in Berlin or Dublin.

This role is ideal for a highly collaborative engineer who thrives in a centralized platform role with a passion to identify & overcome system wide operational challenges by designing and implementing software engineering solutions that enable engineers to deliver change to production in a fast but stable manner. As a Staff Platform Engineer (Production Engineering), you will play a key role in not just building on and maintaining existing platform solutions related to AWS account management, centralised infra resource management, continuous delivery and kubernetes cluster management & operations. But also setting technical direction and contributing to the strategy of the infrastructure platform used by all teams are Personio.
What You’ll Do
Run: Own, operate and maintain the EKS clusters across multiple environments and runtime integrations for all workloads.
Deploy: Own, operate and maintain the GitOps based continuous delivery systems used by all teams to manage stable releases to production.
Provision: Own, operate and maintain central infrastructure as code solutions that enable product teams to safely provision the infra resources they need while enforcing standardisation without causing bottlenecks.
Manage: Own, operate and manage the company's AWS account structure, organisation & permission boundaries. Maintaining foundational infrastructure while also actively monitoring cost & utilisation.
Recover: Ensure all of the above provide Personio with the capability to automatically recover from disaster scenarios.
Operate: Take ownership of operational responsibilities for platform services within your domain, including on-call participation
Collaborate: Partner with other staff engineers across developer experience, security & product teams with the aim to simplify our platform architecture, build a golden path, tackle technical debt and ultimately ensure releases to production are stable.
Support: Document platform capabilities, run internal training sessions, provide AI-operations specific skills - anything it takes to help product teams operate more smoothly across Personio.
Mentor: Help shape a culture of reliability at Personio and multiply your impact by providing technical leadership and mentorship both within your team and beyond it.
What You Need to Succeed
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
7 to 15+ years of experience in a platform engineering, SRE, DevOps background, or related roles operating large scale distributed systems.
Experience with cloud & infra concepts - E.G. AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, Datadog
Experience with SaaS software development in distributed systems using programming languages such as Typescript, Java/Kotlin, Python.
Experience with CI/CD tooling (GitHub Actions/GitOps tools).
You have a high quality bar, with examples of projects you have led which demonstrate operational best practices.
You are data driven and are passionate about using metrics to define and evaluate you and your team's engineering design decisions & operational excellence.
You strike a balance between a strategic and tactical mindset and are capable of switching between hands-on technical work with engineers on your team, architectural alignment with fellow staff engineers across the organisation and direct partnership with engineering management.
You have excellent written and spoken English (level C1/C2 on the CEFR scale).
Experience operating at scale in a high pace, rapid growth environment.

Nice to Have
You have experience with or passion to embrace new ways of working through the adoption of AI powered workflows using agents, skills & agentic feedback loops.
Familiarity with technologies covering all layers of core infrastructure (compute, networking & storage), including Argo/GitOps, Envoy, Linkerd/Service Mesh, Kafka, SNS/SQS,
You have experience building platform-as-a-service style systems for other engineering teams to plug into.
Experience collaborating with Developer Experience teams and supporting the SDLC process.
